Acupuncture and Sports Therapy

Acupuncture has a very successful record with sports injuries. Many professional sports teams have acupuncturists on staff to decrease healing times and resolve stubborn ailments. But the use of acupuncture to treat acute injuries from intense or repetitive physical activity began centuries ago. It was and still is one of the primary means of quick healing for traditional martial arts. Traditional martial arts experts were also experts at healing. They were Traumatology experts and filled this role in early societies.

Specific acupuncture styles and techniques were developed to stop the pain and dramatically increase recovery time. This tradition continues today and its use has expanded into competitive athletics that result in similar injuries. Modern versions of traditional techniques are also gaining popularity in the sports therapy world such as dry needling acupuncture, trigger point acupuncture, and orthopedic acupuncture as well as cupping and guasha. Improved healing outcomes and athletic performance improvement are achieved when these techniques are applied through an in-depth understanding of anatomy and body mechanics.

At Coastal Acupuncture we love helping athletes of all ages achieve their fitness goals.
